Motherly Love
$250.00Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. A hippo mother and her baby swim closely together. Hippos spend most of the daytime in shallow water to keep cool, only leaving the river at night to feed on lush vegetation. They are surprisingly quick on land and can outrun a human; they are the cause of more deaths among local people than any other large herbivore. Never get between a hippo and the water, where they feel the safest and will retreat to if given the chance. Babies are born after a gestation period of about 9 months, in the water or on land.
