Honey and Toto
$250.00Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. One of our favorite images taken by Angie early morning down on Paradise Plain with Honey the cheetah and her three-month-old male cub who we named Toto (an endearing term, meaning child in Swahili). Honey and Toto were the stars of Big Cat Week, 2005, the hugely popular BBC/Animal Planet TV series. Honey’s valiant attempts to keep her little cub alive among all the dangers posed by lions, hyenas, leopards, jackals, baboons and martial eagles had audiences around the world on the edge of their seats. The bond between mother and cub was wonderful to observe and this powerful image of Angie’s captures the sense of intimacy as Toto walks to greet Honey on a termite mound marooned in a sea of grass. 6 million people in the UK alone watched this riveting story unfold and were heartbroken when Honey and Toto disappeared shortly before the end of filming. Honey was seen again a few weeks later. But there was no sign of Toto and we know that he had not survived.
